'NAMBUCCA MISSION’ is a landscape built from a collection of objects, symbols and memories connected to the mission and to Aretha Brown’s ancestral Country.

The trees depicted in the work are mangroves, which hold particular significance for Aretha as a saltwater person. She has always been drawn to mangroves because they are one of the few plants where the roots are visible. Unlike a traditional tree, where the roots remain hidden beneath the ground, mangroves reveal where they come from.
