Through portraiture, Brown reclaims everyday Indigenous womanhood as monumental, challenging colonial traditions that have historically excluded or misrepresented First Nations identities. The work invites viewers into a space of familiarity and respect, where softness and resilience coexist, and where cultural memory is carried through gesture, gaze, and presence.
This work follows Brown’s presentation in the 5th National Indigenous Art Triennial, After the Rain, at the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
